University of Maryland Business School Honors Late Board Member Michael Corvino

College Park, Md. - April 14, 2008 - The University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business honored the late Michael Corvino, president of JanSport backpack brand and an active member of the schools board of visitors, with a room dedication ceremony on Thursday, April 3. Located in Van Munching Hall, the room was named in memory of Corvino's many contributions to the school before he was killed in a car accident on July 14, 2007.

Mikes was a tragic and terrible loss that extended throughout the University of Maryland community, said Howard Frank, dean of the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business. His infectious enthusiasm for his work, for students, and for the Smith School touched many and is strongly remembered.

As a board member, Corvino was involved and committed in his consultative role with the school. He is remembered as an early technology adopter and advocate of the Smith Schools focus on the integration of technology and business. One of the examples of the innovations he helped pioneer while at JanSport was a product line that integrated Apple iPods and Bluetooth-enabled phones into backpacks and apparel. An avid Terps fan, Corvino played football for the University of Maryland from 1979 to 1982.
