The University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business ranks second worldwide in faculty research produced from 2008-2010 in the discipline of supply chain management and logistics.
The rankings, placing Smith second to the University of Tennessee's College of Business Administration, appear in the latest issue of the International Journal of Physical Distribution & Logistics Management. (full study accessible via paid subscription).
The data have been tracked since 1967, with findings released on a periodic basis. The Smith School’s previous ranking for research productivity -- published between 2005 and 2007 -- was 10th.
The rankings, drawn from the six leading journals in the field, are based on a system that awards points to institutions based on the research productivity of the faculty.
“The ranking illustrates that the Smith School is a premiere destination for top supply chain management faculty and students worldwide,” said Martin Dresner, professor and department chair for Logistics, Business and Public Policy.
The department is home to the Supply Chain Management Center, a technology-based research and education center which is defining 21st-century best practices related to the efficient production and delivery of products and services.
