Thank you, Veterans!

Today, members of the community at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business express their gratitude to members of our military, past and present, and their families. Approximately 150 current students at the Smith School are active duty military and veterans, and there are thousands of Terps who have served.

"Today at 11 a.m., I ask that we pause for a moment of silence to honor … all who served, including our 1,000 student veterans and their dependents," said University President Wallace Loh in an email today. "I invite you to the 12:30 p.m. remembrance ceremony at Memorial Chapel. Today and every day, we as a nation and as a university must do all we can to support their education and success. Then we fulfill the prophetic vision of turning swords into plowshares."

Earlier this year, the U.S. Veterans Administration approved the University of Maryland’s application for the Yellow Ribbon Program and UMD is now designated as a “Yellow Ribbon Program Participating Institution.” Degree-granting institutions of higher learning participating in the Post-9/11 GI Bill Yellow Ribbon Program agree to make additional funds available for education without an additional charge to a service member’s GI Bill entitlement.
