Help Smith MBA Alum Win $250K Grant
Fede Garcia-Lopez (Smith MBA 2003; Engineering 1998) came up with the idea
for Panas Gourmet Empanadas during an entrepreneurship class while in the
part-time MBA program at the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of
Business. It started as a wholesale business and in 2010 he opened restaurants
in Dupont Circle and Bethesda.
Fede needs some UMD Terp support to win a $250,000 small business grant from
Chase and LivingSocial.
Vote now for Panas Gourmet Empanadas so they can further expand around
the D.C. metro area! The deadline for voting is June 30, 2012.

specializes in Latin fusion gourmet empanadas, crescent- shaped turnovers,
stuffed with well-seasoned combinations of meats, vegetables, spices, fruits,
and sweets. Our recipes are inspired by the idea of Latin Fusion cuisine; a
culinary concept based on creating new recipes by combining traditional and
modern culinary techniques and mixing ingredients from different countries in
the Americas. The only empanadas’ tradition we want to preserve is that
empanadas a great idea and fun package for food.”
