Smith No. 23 in Academic Ranking of World Universities
The University of Maryland and the Robert H. Smith School of Business are ranked
No. 23 in the world for academic and research performance in business/economics
in the 2012 Academic Ranking of World Universities, published by the Center for
World Class Universities at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai, China on August
15.
More than 1000 schools from around the globe are ranked each year. Ranking criteria
include the number of alumni and staff to receive Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals,
the number of highly cited researchers selected by Thomson Scientific, the number
of articles published in the top journals, the number of articles indexed in the
Science Citation Index - Expanded and Social Sciences Citation Index, and per capita
performance with respect to the size of an institution.

The Smith School’s highly cited research faculty is consistently recognized as
among the best in the world. This year the Financial Times placed Smith No. 10 in
the world for research, the school’s fifth consecutive year in the top 15.
