Smith
School Graduates Second Shanghai
Executive MBA Class
The second group of business
executives to graduate from the Smith
School’s Executive MBA program in
Shanghai commemorated that
accomplishment on May 11, 2008 with a
graduation ceremony and celebration.
Graduates reflected a diverse group of
distinguished senior executives from
many walks of life, nations and regions
– all brought together by Smith’s
rigorous program and shared experiences
learning together.
The ceremony, hosted by Smith School
China Director Ning Shao included a
keynote speech delivered by Senior
Associate Dean Anand Anandalingam, who
traveled to Shanghai to help mark the
occasion. The program was held at the
Smith School’s Shanghai offices and
followed by a relaxed luncheon at the JW
Marriott.
“I congratulate each of our Shanghai
graduates,” said Smith School Dean
Howard Frank. “As they become part of
our growing group of Smith School alumni
in China they also join a vibrant Smith
community that extends to all corners of
the globe.”
Participants found the Smith Shanghai
Executive MBA program experience to be a
close one – one that comes with a
network of friends and contacts that
will continue over the course of their
careers.
Andrew Polins, class president,
captured the day’s emotions by saying,
“I've enjoyed calling you my classmates.
I would be privileged to call you my
colleagues. But most of all, I am
honored to call you my friends.”
Paul Mauerman, Shanghai EMBA program
graduate and an alumnus of the
University of Maryland’s U.S.
undergraduate program said, “There is no
doubt we have received a great education
so the only remaining question is to
what degree we maximize our newly
established network of friends and
leverage the program in our respective
fields. I’m confident this group will
accomplish big things.”
