Bring National Week of Entrepreneurship to the University of Maryland
Students across campus will soon have a chance to join millions of other young
people all over the world in a quest for new ideas and new venture creation!
It will all happen Nov. 17-23 with a university-wide celebration of Global Entrepreneurship
Week from the Maryland Technology Enterprise
Institute (MTECH), a unit of the A. James Clark School of Engineering , and
the Dingman Center for Entrepreneurship
at the Robert H. Smith School of Business. The two are combining their considerable
strengths as part of UM-Net, the university's resources supporting campus entrepreneurship,
to offer a variety of speakers, programs and activities designed to spark the imagination
and fan the spirit of entrepreneurship.
Highlights will include:
Nov. 17: Catch a rising star. Business Idol competition at the
Smith School. Try out your business idea in front of a panel of judges including
Marc Katz, founder and president of
Customink.com.
Nov. 18: Get it in writing. Provisional Patent Writing Workshop.
This workshop will be led by Patty Campbell, law school associate professor and
director, Maryland Intellectual Property Legal Resource Center, followed by lunch
with Kären Olson, CEO, BioMarker Strategies and a Dingman Center entrepreneur-in-residence
Nov. 19: Sample Terp wares. Terps Holiday Bazaar will be held
in Van Munching Hall. Student entrepreneurs from across the campus will sell their
merchandise just in time for the holidays.
Nov. 20: Be inspired. Lecture from Phil Gross, first CFO of
AOL.
Nov. 21: Ninth Annual University of Maryland Business
Plan Competition Kick-off with lunch presenter Adil Wali of Rich Apps Consulting.

Global Entrepreneurship Week is a global initiative founded by the Kauffman Foundation
in the United States and Make Your Mark in the United Kingdom, that will encourage
participants to pursue entrepreneurial thinking and opportunities through activities
supported by entrepreneurs, government officials, non-profit leaders and educators.
