Smith Students Spearhead Katrina
Fundraisers
The
Smith MBA Association is collecting
donations to help the victims of
Hurricane Katrina this week and next
week. The initiative is headed by two
first year students Noah Greenberg and
Leslie McDowell (pictured, right).
We are all very busy right now with
quizzes and material to read but there
is simply no way of ignoring a disaster
of this magnitude, says Greenburg. Their
goal is to collect $2,007. (The
significance is that they are in the
"Class of 2007.")
A
table has been set up in the grand
atrium of Van Munching Hall, where
donors can give cash or checks. The
immediate thing the Smith community can
do to help is give money, says
Greenberg. All donations will be
forwarded to Americas Second Harvest.
According to America's Second Harvests
Web site, its mission of is to create a
hunger-free America. The organization
distributes food and grocery products
through a nationwide network of
certified affiliates, increase public
awareness of domestic hunger, and
advocate for policies that benefit
America's hungry. Its network includes
more than 200 food banks and food-rescue
organizations, serving every county in
the U.S.
The effort will go on until September
14th and 100 percent of all donations
will go to victims of Hurricane Katrina.
None of it will be used for
administrative or other charity
expenses. One dollar will buy 15 meals,
according to Greenberg. To make your
donation, please stop by the MBAA table
in the Grand Atrium from 9:00 a.m. 4:45
p.m. on Thursday, September 8, or Monday
(9/12) through Wednesday (9/14) next
week.

The newly formed Maryland
Undergraduate Student Entrepreneurs
(MUSE) Club, sponsored by the Dingman
Center for Entrepreneurship, is also
raising money for the hurricane victims.
MUSE started selling popcorn on
Wednesday, September 7, in the grand
atrium to benefit the recovery effort.
The fundraising initiative continued on
September 8, with popcorn and cotton
candy during an Open House at the
Dingman Center for Entrepreneurship.
