Five Smith
Undergraduates Awarded Accounting
Scholarships
On February 3, 2004, five Smith
School accounting students were awarded
scholarships from The Maryland Society
of Accountants (MSA) for their
outstanding academic achievements.
Michelle Fernheimer, Michelle Gardner,
Kuo-Sheing Lee, Paula Sparacino, and
Daniel Volk were selected among 34 total
scholarship winners. The total amount
awarded was $22,020.
The scholarships are based on
academic merit and awarded to Maryland
residents enrolled in an accredited
Maryland university, college, or
community college. The MSA awards
scholarships on a semi-annual basis for
the spring and fall semesters. To be
eligible for the scholarship, students
must have a minimum 3.0 GPA in
accounting and overall, and be currently
enrolled in an accounting program.
U.S. News & World Report ranks
the Smith School's undergraduate program
17th best in the U.S.
With more than 3,000 members, the
Maryland Society of Accountants, Inc.
was founded in 1959 to protect the right
to practice of all accountants,
bookkeepers, tax practitioners and
financial planners. Today the Society is
the only regional accounting
organization, which permits and
encourages memberships of tax
practitioners, bookkeepers, Enrolled
Agents, accountants and CPA's.
