Managers of
Smith School's Mayer Fund Appear on
CNBC
The Smith School MBA students who manage
the Mayer Fund appeared on CNBC,
during the "Power Lunch" program on Jan.
22, 2003. The segment was broadcast live
from outside the New York Stock
Exchange. The MBA students were in New
York City as part of an annual trip to
meet with Wall Street professionals.
During their appearance on CNBC,
the students discussed several of the
fund's favorite stocks, and talked about
the Mayer Fund. Rose Cohen, one of the
portfolio managers, discussed Symantec
(SYMC). Jennifer Graham, the fund's
telecommunications analyst, discussed
CenturyTel (CTL). Filip Liharik, the
fund's health care analyst, discussed
Novartis (NVS). CNBC's own
analysts agreed that these three stocks
were good picks.
The Mayer Fund was started in 1993
with $250,000 and grew to over
$1,000,000 in 2001. The fund is run by a
select group of second-year MBA students
who comprise a management team of three
portfolio managers, nine equity analysts
and a marketing specialist.
Last year's Mayer Fund managers also
appeared on Power Lunch during their New
York visit in January 2002.
