BMBAConf1The Smith School made its presence known at the 32nd Annual National Black MBA Conference hosted by the National Black MBA Association. This year’s event was held in Los Angeles, California, from September 21-25, 2010.

The mission of the National Black MBA Association (NBMBAA) is to “lead in the creation of educational opportunities and economic growth for African Americans.” With over 44 professional chapters and 17 collegiate chapters, the NBMBAA is one of the nation’s premier business organizations. Each year, the organization host a week-long conference in a major city, with various events geared towards leadership skills, entrepreneurial training, and career development. The week ends with a two day career fair with over 300 major companies in attendance.

Every year, many Smith students attend the NBMBAA career fair in search of internships and full time positions. The Smith Black MBA Association actively works to assist its members and the broader Smith community in preparing for the conference through training workshops and also coordinates logistics for students in need.

BMBAConf2This year, the Smith Black MBA Association, along with Dean “Anand” Anandalingam and the Smith Office of Career Services, hosted a Pre-Career Fair Reception for corporate partners, students, and alumni. The event served as a great opportunity for current students to connect with alumni in their particular areas of interest, as well as prospective employers.

Dean Anand took the time to briefly tell the employers why the Smith School of Business is one of a kind. The dean explained the school’s commitment to diversity and boasted the school’s new facilities and great location in the D.C. metro area. Additionally, Dean Anand reminded attendees about our top-ranked faculty and highly ranked MBA programs.

After his speech, the Dean continued to build relationships with the recruiters and company representatives; many of whom noted their appreciation for an event such as this. The event proved to be a great success and Smith students left the breakfast reception with valuable additions to their network, and of course, a full stomach.
