Smith Center Launches Living Lab Portal

Smith Center Launches Living Lab Portal

Today, the Center for Social Value Creation (CSVC) at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business officially launched the Living Lab Portal. This online platform is designed to connect UMD students with experiential learning projects focused on improving the UMD campus and local community.

The site hopes to promote mutually-beneficial collaborations between students and UMD organizations. Students can browse projects posted by UMD department and either sign up to be collaborators on those projects or propose their own project ideas.

CSVC worked with a team of UMD undergraduate students to design the Living Lab so that it will empower students to build skills while helping campus departments accomplish professional goals. Students will now have greater accessibility to campus buy-in and support, while campus departments will have a much easier time recruiting student support for strategic projects that help the University of Maryland.

CSVC hopes that UMD departments will begin creating organization profiles on the site and posting projects for the spring 2015 semester, so students can begin browsing and proposing projects. CSVC sees the Living Lab as especially useful for students looking to start or expand projects for clubs, Greek life, and class projects, or on their own.

If you'd like to learn more about how the Living Lab can benefit you as a student or department, please email Ryan Steinbach: rsteinbach@rhsmith.umd.edu. CSVC will be conducting one-on-one meetings over the winter to help interested users leverage the Living Lab Portal.
