Financial Times Ranks
Smith School Among Top U.S. Business Schools
College Park, Md. – January 25, 2010 – The
MBA program at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of
Business is ranked No. 20 in the United States in the Financial Times
MBA 2010 rankings, published today. The influential rankings place Smith No. 14
in the world for research, the fourth consecutive year in the top 15.
“We are honored to be ranked among the top business schools in the United
States,” said G. “Anand” Anandalingam, dean of the Robert H. Smith School of
Business. “Our faculty continue to be recognized for their impressive
world-leading research, which they translate to our students in the classroom.
It is our goal that our students leave here with the real-world knowledge to
have lasting impact as leaders no matter what they pursue.”
The Smith School’s MBA program also comes in as the No. 5 program among
business schools in the United States in the Financial Times ranking.
The program ranked No. 43 globally.
The Smith School has consistently been recognized for the strength of its
faculty research, coming in at No. 3 in the United States in BusinessWeek’s
most recent ranking on a measure of “intellectual capital” for the number of
faculty articles published in top academic journals.
The Financial Times rankings are compiled from two surveys – one for
the business schools and the other for the MBA class of 2006. The surveys take
into account information including salaries earned by alumni and percentage
increase after earning the MBA, career progress, and a program’s student body
and faculty demographics. The research rating is calculated by number of faculty
publications in 40 international academic and practitioner journals. Points are
accrued by the business school at which the author is presently employed and
adjustment is made for faculty size.
