Launches Four New Executive Degree
Programs

2006 The University of Marylands
Robert H. Smith School of Business today
announced it has launched four new
masters degree programs targeting
professionals in various industry
sectors and geographic regions. The
programs include the Evening Executive
MBA, the Executive Master of Science
(MS) in Accounting, the Executive MS in
Business with a focus on Information
Systems and Technology, and a customized
MBA program for Science Applications
International Corporation (SAIC).
Evening Executive MBA
The first cohort of the Smith
Schools new Evening Executive MBA began
in July 2006 at the schools main campus
in College Park, Md. The program
includes some features of the Smith
Schools Executive MBA program launched
in 2003, but is designed for a different
audience and uses a different curricular
structure. Participants complete the
full 54-credit graduate program in two
years, with the first year focused on
required core courses and the second
year open to a selection of electives at
Smith locations around the world.
Executive MS in Accounting
Smiths new Executive MS in
Accounting program began in September
2006 with approximately 40 students.
Focused on internal auditing, this
innovative Executive MS program was
developed by Smiths world-class faculty
in consultation with leading public
accounting firms and other accounting
professionals. It is designed to meet a
growing need for accountants with
advanced degrees and internal audit
specialization following the institution
of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act. The program
is delivered in an executive format,
with classes meeting on Saturdays for 15
months.
Executive MS in Business Focus
in Information Systems & Technology
(Tunis)
Drawing students from Tunisia and
southern Europe, the new MS in Business
with a focus in Information Systems and
Technology was jointly developed between
the Smith School and the Mediterranean
School of Business (MSB) of the South
Mediterranean University in Tunisia. The
10-month, part-time program targets
aspiring and practicing managers from a
variety of industries and functional
areas including finance, marketing,
human resources and information systems.
The curriculum provides a solid base in
core business principles with an
emphasis on the convergence of
globalization, entrepreneurship and
technology. Classes began in September
2006 at the MSB campus in Tunis.
Customized MBA for SAIC
The Smith School has teamed with
Science Applications International
Corporation (SAIC), a leading systems,
solutions and technical service company,
to deliver a 20-month customized MBA
program, which also began in September
2006. Approximately 34 full-time SAIC
employees are taking graduate classes
while continuing to work full time.
Smith faculty teach participating
employees primarily on-site at SAIC
facilities in McLean, Va. The curriculum
provides a firm foundation in core
business concepts of traditional
management education as well as academic
content tailored specifically to SAIC
and is designed to foster effective
teamwork and individual leadership.
There is a substantial action-learning
component which is an experiential
learning project it will be a robust
project to foster individual leadership
and echo program curriculum.
