What is a podcast?

The word ”podcast” is a concatenation of the words iPod and broadcast. The underlying technology used for podcasts, called RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is capable of containing any type of media including audio, video, graphics, and more. Visit the Help page for more detailed information.

As a subscriber to Smith Podcasts, you will regularly receive video and/or audio segments as soon as they become available. Smith Business Video Views and audio segments are released once a week. The most common way to receive podcasts is through a podcast receiver, similar to a Web browser. Several podcast receivers are available, most for free. They are very easy to download and install. How do I subscribe?

Once you have downloaded the podcast receiver, you must identify which podcasts you want to receive. Usually you can simply copy the URL for the podcast you want and past it into the receiver. Use this URL to subscriber to Smith Podcasts: http://www.rhsmith.umd.edu/news/rss/podcast.xml.

Note: Smith Podcasts have been available since March 2006 and in order to catch up on dozens of older segments you may need to subscribe to the podcast feed to access the complete library. In iTunes, go to Advanced>Subscribe to Podcast and paste in the URL above; or browse the podcast directory for "Smith Business Intelligence On Demand;" or click here to automatically open up iTunes and subscribe
