Maryland Day 2004 Highlights

Approximately 70,000 people came to the University of Maryland for the Sixth Annual Maryland Day celebration on Saturday, April 24, 2004. Hundreds of prospective students, alumni, faculty, staff, and their families explored Van Munching Hall, home of the Smith School of Business.

Visitors attended timely business seminars--from "SuperLeadership" and "Scoring High on Performance Appraisals" to "Publishing E-Newsletters" and "The Business of Board Games."

Prospective students and their families came early to secure a seat at the popular "Undergraduate Business Program Overview." (right) The "Wall Street Comes to Smith" seminar, held in the school's Netcentric Financial Markets Laboratory; Dean Howard Frank's presentation on "Business in the Digital Economy;" the Smith Alumni Breakfast; and Van Munching Hall building tours were also big draws. Job seekers visited Smith's Office of Career Management to learn about exciting career opportunities for business students.

This year again, the Smith School spread a tent on McKeldin Mall, featuring a general store for children to learn about business and attracting visitors to Van Munching Hall. The Smith School balloons were a big hit with the kids!

Testudo was on hand for the Smith Passport Raffle Prize Drawing, where Peter Davies from Bryan Roads, Md., took home the grand prize, a 256 MB Portable MP3 Player (pictured left). Other winners included: Louis Distefono, Ellicott City, Md. (128MB flash drive); Clare Callaghan, Silver Spring, Md. (black leather padfolio); Dawn Daggett, Cheverly, Md. (laptop bag); and Cheryl Lyons, Columbia, Md. (Smith School gift bag).
