Incoming MBAA President Wins Bronze Medal in 1500 Meters at French Nationals

Karen Goetze, MBA candidate 2004 and incoming MBA Association (MBAA) president, traveled to France earlier this month to compete in the 2003 French National Championships for indoor track and field. Goetze took home the bronze medal for her specialty, the 1500 meters. The competition lasted three days with the final on March 1, 2003.

Goetze has lived in the United States for seven years and has dual citizenship with France. She graduated from Harvard with a bachelor of arts degree in economics in 1996. She has been running for the past 13 years and her coach decided that she should take part in the indoor track and field competition this year.

As far as Olympic hopes, Goetze says that she is too busy with school right now, but maybe in the future! "I am trying to whittle down one second at a time, to keep a clear head and maintain achievable goals," she said. "I am really far from any international standard but I would welcome the progression to that level."

As incoming MBAA president, Goetze's main focus is to make the school more united through clubs with an emphasis on career management. "We have a really committed team of MBAA officers and I am excited about working with everyone," said Goetze. "Our main focus is on building community through career development (and social activities) as well as building our careers through the community. To accomplish this we plan to rely heavily on the existing club structure -- by making it more integrated and collaborative."

Congratulations to Karen Goetze on her achievement!
