GW School of Business and University of Maryland Robert H. Smith School of Business Host 53rd Annual Academy of International Business Conference Rethinking the Roles of Business, Government and NGOs in the Global Economy

WHAT
Scholars, government officials and nonprofit leaders will explore “Rethinking the Roles of Business, Government and NGOs in the Global Economy,” the theme of this year’s Academy of International Business conference. The George Washington University School of Business and the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business will co-host the 53rd annual meeting at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington, June 30-July 3. More than 1,000 people are slated to attend, testimony to the relevance of international business in today’s economy. AIB chose Washington, as a hub of business, government and NGO activity, to delve into some of the most contentious issues of our times (crime, corruption, contagions, security, food/fuel/resource shortages) that demand cooperation and resolution between different types of organizations with diverse stakeholders and varying goals.

  • June 30, 4:30 p.m. – Opening Plenary Session, Atrium Ballroom:  Features keynote speeches by Ray Offenheiser, president of Oxfam America, and Jim Whitehurst, CEO of Redhat
  • July 1, 9 a.m. – Washington, D.C. Deans Panel, Amphitheater: Deans of Washington-area business schools discuss collaborations with nonprofits and government entities
  • July 1, 2:30 p.m. – Global Entrepreneurship Monitor meeting, Hemisphere B room: Team leaders from a multi-country effort to measure and monitor entrepreneurship trends and patterns around the world gather to report trends
  • July 1, 1 p.m. – World Investment Report, Hemisphere B room: Panel on the 2012 publication about investment trends around the world, with discussion focusing on investment and sustainable development
  • July 2, 4:15 p.m. – Ambassadors Plenary on Good Governance, Amphitheater: Organized by George Washington University, this panel features Washington-based global ambassadors speaking on institutional change and development in their home countries
