GAITHERSBURG, MD (October 22, 2013) – CNSI, of Gaithersburg, Md., and the University of Maryland’s Center for Health Information and Decision Systems (CHIDS) at the Robert H. Smith School of Business today announced a partnership that marries innovation from industry with scientific research to reduce health care billing fraud, waste and abuse. This rampant problem creates excessive costs in the health care system and negatively impacts patient care, prompting the need for effective IT solutions to detect improper billing.
CNSI’s ClaimsSure® solution can analyze sets of big data to detect fraud, waste and abuse and assess a health care claim’s risk, driving efficiency and cost savings through predictive probability analysis. Research leaders at CHIDS will collaborate with CNSI engineers to conduct a series of technical, operational and economic assessments to explore ClaimsSure’s® modeling approach and effectiveness.
As part of the completion of this project, CHIDS will work with CNSI to develop a white paper that will coincide with a webinar for industry stakeholders and policymakers discussing this health IT innovation. Their research findings will be compiled for publication.

The partnership aims to advance performance through scientific research for model technical excellence, system-wide impact assessment, and for the behavioral aspects of using the ClaimsSure® product.
Through this partnership, CNSI and CHIDS hope to better understand the ability of analytical software to enable improved health care quality outcomes through IT innovation in health care across the public sector. The partners also hope to conduct further research in other areas, including how to improve outcomes in consumer engagement.
