  1. How did you secure your internship?

    I found out about ÜberOffices through one of the Dingman Center for Entrepreneurship’s Angels in Residence, whom I met at an in-class pitch session. He reached out to my class partner and me, looking for self-starting summer interns to help get the Arlington startup up and running.
  2. How did Smith assist you with the internship?

    My introduction to ÜberOffices was fully facilitated by Smith. Professor Brent Goldfarb invited several Dingman Angels to our class, which is when I initially met one of the founders. I was also able to benefit from the Venture Internship Program funded by the Dingman Center, which offers matching funds to make it possible for students to intern with startups and early-stage companies that are not yet able to finance a fully paid position.
  3. What is your career goal after graduation and how do you plan on leveraging this internship opportunity to achieve that goal?

    One of the most unique things about my internship was that I was working with a startup, among many other startups and early-stage companies. There was a lot of brainstorming and creative energy, which was refreshing and energized me to blaze a unique path with my career. The founders of ÜberOffices, both of whom are venture capitalists, are great sounding boards and so supportive of their team – I’ll be looking forward to staying connected with them and their networks as I plot my next steps.
  4. How did Smith prepare you for this opportunity? Highlight your most challenging moment of your internship:

    Brent Goldfarb’s Entrepreneurship and New Ventures class was a great introduction into the world of startups. Although I had never worked as an office manager, and knew little about the local technology startup scene, the entrepreneurial mindset we learned in that class was what prepared me the most for my internship. The most challenging part of my internship was figuring out how to get a fully functional shared office space up and running – from wireless networks to water coolers, retrofitting projector mounts and giving tours of the space, creating an online presence, networking with industry experts, and learning the lingo of entrepreneurs and technology gurus – every day was a crash course in something new!

Extracurricular Activities: Social Venture Consulting Practicum with World Resources Institute's New Ventures and Change Matters...and a brief career in on-campus small-business ownership with Cafe Dingman.

Favorite thing about Smith or MBA program so far: I came to Smith primarily because of the emerging focus on social value creation in the curriculum and special programs, and it’s now becoming a much more visible element of our school’s profile. It’s been challenging and exciting to be a part of that growth, and I’m excited to see how the Smith community cultivates this focus in the future.
