Kathleen E. Havey joined the University of Maryland in 2004 as an adjunct faculty member at the Robert H. School of Business.  She currently teaches Integrated Marketing Communications to undergraduates.

Prior to joining Maryland, Ms. Havey worked as a lobbyist for the United States Chamber of Commerce, the world’s largest business federation.  In that capacity, Ms. Havey served as the Chamber’s principal pension and employee benefits policy specialist.  In addition to advocating for business before Congress and the Administration, she handled media inquiries and developed public relations strategies for companies affected by proposed regulatory changes.

Ms. Havey also served as Legislative Director for Congresswoman Nancy L. Johnson (CT-05), the senior woman member of the House of Representatives.  As Legislative Director, Ms. Havey was responsible for developing a coherent legislative agenda and marketing strategy to implement that agenda.    Successes included passage of landmark child support enforcement legislation in 1995 and a change to public pension law that aided teachers and public servants with their retirements.

Ms. Havey earned her master’s degree in business administration from the Robert H. Smith School of Business, and bachelor of arts degree in political science from the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, IN.
