Research Interests:
I am interested in how individuals control themselves in pursuit of their goals (i.e., self-regulation). This includes the strategies people use (e.g., goal setting), the various processes involved (e.g., cognitive and motivational factors), and the individual characteristics (e.g., attentional control, emotion regulation, self-awareness) that lead to or inhibit effective and/or efficient self-regulation.
Working collaboration with Smith Faculty and students:

Michael is currently working with a number of faculty members, including Subra Tangirala, Myeong-Gu Seo, and Kathryn Bartol.

Michael is also involved in a number of collaborations with fellow Smith PhD students, including projects with Beth Campbell-Bush, Brady Firth, and Elad Sherf.
