The Center for Leadership, Innovation and Change (CLIC), at the Robert H. Smith School of Business, University of Maryland College Park, recently introduced a new project in Europe. At a meeting in Zurich, sponsored by Hilton Worldwide, executives from twenty companies participated in a session designed to introduce and explain the benefits and services of  joining CLIC’s Talent Management Network(TMN). Olivier Harnisch, Area  V.P. of Northern  & Central Europe; and Ben Bengougam, V.P. Human Resources Europe Operations were the key Hilton executives involved in the planning of the event.

The session was led by Dr. Jim Spina from CLIC and joined by Lori J. Spina, president of the Spina Network along with Carlton Becker and Edwin Bowman, principals of the BowmanBecker Consultancy.

The keynote speaker was Sabine Lohri from Hilton’s Regional Human Resources Division of Northern and Central Europe. Lohri explained how Hilton’s system for recruiting and retaining talent was developed and how it successfully operates in Europe. The Hilton system has all of the key elements of a first class program and is regarded as an example for other companies to emulate.

Additional presentations on talent management and multi-generational challenges were made by Carlton Becker and Edwin Bowman. In addition, BowmanBecker shared a model for successful talent management networking based on their work with Japanese companies in the U.S.

CLIC, and its partners, have been developing the TMN in both the New York City and Washington, D.C. Areas. To date, three organizational meetings have been held in addition to the session in Switzerland. The main purpose of the TMN is to bring company HR executives together two or three times a year to exchange information on best practices for talent management and provide a forum to introduce cutting edge research from CLIC on the subject. Drs. Susan Taylor, Kay Bartol and Paul Tesluk have been instrumental in the formulation of the TMN at the University of Maryland’s Smith School of Business in College Park. The TMN is a joint venture of CLIC, The Spina Network, Inc. and BowmanBecker Consultancy, LLC.

The next meeting of the TMN is scheduled for September 22-23, 2011 in College Park at the Smith School. For information and registration details please email consultspina@aol.com.
