Jim Sanders is a serial entrepreneur, investor, and business assistance expert with expertise in new venture creation, market analysis, and corporate partnering.

He is currently Director of New Ventures at Honeywell International. He is also Adjunct Professor of Entrepreneurship at the R.H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland where he teaches New Venture Creation, Entrepreneurial Finance, Social Entrepreneurship and International Entrepreneurship.

Until recently he was President of the Columbia Group which provides investment and assistance for startup companies.

Earlier he was consultant to the World Bank where he developed a series of entrepreneurship programs for emerging countries. He led the research and public policy program at the Software Publishers Association and the Information Technology Association of America. This included leading the industry group that performed the following studies:

  • Global Software Piracy Analysis
  • Global Economic and Social Impact of Information Technology; a 72 Country Analysis.
  • Skill Requirements for the Global IT Workforce.

He is the former CEO of two software firms and two corporate new ventures. He was Vice President/General Manager Cendant Corporation, Director, New Ventures at Time Inc., Manager for Strategy and Product Management for Texas Instruments.
Earlier he was an industry analyst at IDC and Director of Competitive Intelligence Research for FIND/SVP.

He holds a MA in Information Science from Columbia University and has completed all the degree requirements for a doctorate in entrepreneurship and public policy issues at George Washington University except the dissertation.
