Adjunct Faculty
David Kressler has over 25 years of combined financial and managerial
expertise in both for-profit and not-for-profit organizations. In addition, he
has founded and built several companies from start-up venture to successful
sale.
In his career, David worked in Finance at Ford Motor Company where he was
involved with: Quality of Work Life activities in various plants; UAW Contract
negotiations at the Dearborn Engine Plant and launch team member for the
Taubate, Brasil Engine Plant Launch. At The American Psychological Association,
David’s primary focus was implementing the strategic and cultural changes
envisioned by the Board of Directors and Executive Officer. Leaving there after
four years, he became CFO and Treasurer of Spot Image Corporation where he
worked to help an international emerging company break through to stable
profitability.
Tired of making money for someone else, David followed his passion for
cooking and started his own business: a single restaurant which soon expanded
into six locations. Handling all aspects of the business with his six managers
put new meaning on such concepts as ‘value chain’ or ‘sustainable competitive
advantage’. After several very exciting years, the venture was purchased by a
larger chain.
Both Acacia and Principal afforded David the opportunity to blend together
his three basic skills: finance, management and business start-up. Here, he
established his own client base and now manages a growing portfolio comprised of
both client and institutional assets. Drawing on the assistance of both Russell
and Capital Guardian, David has been very successful at balancing risk with
market growth.
Throughout his career, David has had the opportunity to make various
presentations to industry groups (NAIFA, MDRT, etc.) and participate in
strategic and equity market studies sponsored by The Washington Post
Personal Finance, etc.
As an adjunct faculty member of the Robert H. Smith School of Business, he
has taught a range of courses including: Implementing Strategy, Strategic
Management; Organizational Behavior & Strategic Management; Securities Analysis
& Valuation, Equities Market and Financing New Ventures.
In his free time, he serves on the Boards of the Healthcare Initiative
Foundation and the Montgomery Hospice. His favorite past time is running (both
marathons in DC as well as one in France and Spain) and travel (his last trip
was to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro).
