Professional Organizations

Many of the professional organizations listed below offer discounted memberships, internships and scholarships available only to University of Maryland logistics and supply chain students. Check with your LTSCM representatives for more information.

APICS - American Production and Inventory Control Society
APICS is the global leader and premier provider of information and services in production and inventory management and related areas to enable members, enterprises, and individuals to add value to their business performance. APICS is a not-for-profit international educational organization founded in 1957. Certifications include: CPIM-Certified in Production and Inventory Management, CIRM-Certified in Integrated Resource Management, and CFPIM-Certified Fellow in Production and Inventory Management. APICS has a local chapter in Baltimore.

ASTL - American Society of Transportation and Logistics
ASTL's objects and purposes are to establish, promote, and maintain high standards of knowledge and professional training; formulate a code of ethics for the profession; advance the professional interests of members of the organization; serve as a source of information and guidance for the fields of traffic and transportation, logistics, and physical distribution management; and serve the industry as a whole by fostering professional accomplishments. They offer a certification program consisting of five (5) exams and a paper. HOWEVER, upon graduation with a major in LTSCM you can get a waiver for the exams and the paper, pay $100 and be certified... WELL WORTH DOING

CSCMP - Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals
The Council of Logistics Management is a not-for-profit professional business organization consisting of several thousand logistics members throughout the world who have interests and/or responsibilities in logistics and the related functions that make up the logistics profession. Its purpose is to enhance the development of the logistics profession through logistics professionals by providing them with educational opportunities and relevant information through a variety of programs, services, and activities. There are student Internships listed available ONLY to student members and chapters in Washington and Baltimore for local networking.

ISM - Institute for Supply Management
ISM is the largest supply management association in the world as well as one of the most respected. ISM’s mission is to lead the supply management profession through its standards of excellence, research, promotional activities, and education. Free Student and Academician Membership
Certifications include Certified Purchasing Manager (C.P.M.) and Accredited Purchasing Practitioner (A.P.P.)

NDTA - National Defense Transportation Association
NDTA is an educational, non-profit organization dedicated to fostering a strong and efficient transportation system in support of national defense. It is an organization for Commercial, Government, and Military Professionals. NDTA has a Local Chapter in Washington DC with strong "under 35 mentoring" program.
Local and National NDTA have been very supportive of Maryland students with scholarships (only available to student members) and career opportunities

Transportation Research Forum
The Transportation Research Forum is an independent organization of transportation professionals. Its purpose is to provide an impartial meeting ground for carriers, shippers, government officials, consultants, university researchers, suppliers, and others seeking an exchange of information and ideas related to both passenger and freight transportation.
