Research Interests:
Corporate social performance and
policy, private management and
public policy.
Dr. Preston retired in 1998
after almost 50 years of
fulltime academic service at
Harvard, Berkeley, SUNY Buffalo,
Maryland, and many foreign
institutions. He is the author
and/or editor of more than 200
scholarly publications,
including the prize-winning
volume PRIVATE MANAGEMENT AND
PUBLIC POLICY (Prentice-Hall,
1975) and, most recently,
REDEFINING THE CORPORATION:
STAKEHOLDER MANAGEMENT AND
ORGANIZATIONAL WEALTH (Stanford,
2002). From 1978-88 he was
editor of the annual publication
RESEARCH IN CORPORATE SOCIAL
PERFORMANCE AND POLICY (JAI
Press). He was elected a Fellow
of the Academy of Management in
1982, named a Distinguished
Scholar-Teacher of the
University of Maryland in 1994,
and received the University's
Distinguished International
Service Award in 1996. In
recognition for his leadership
in establishing the
Polish-American Management
Center at the University of
Lodz, Poland, he received the
degree Doctor Honoris Causa
(hon.) from that institution in
1999. Since 2004 he has served
as Faculty Ombuds Officer for
the University of
Maryland College Park.
