Study Abroad

The Smith School's International Study Trips allow students to see their academics applied. Class content generally includes examining the role of technology in host country economies and companies, supply chain issues, and international business practices.

Organized by the Smith School's Center for Global Business, the 7-to-10 day programs combine seminars at a leading business school in the host country with visits to executives heading multinational companies and global organizations. Cross-cultural team assignments, trips to historic sites and social events ensure that Smith students leave with an appreciation of the country's culture and people as well as its business environment.

Most recently, students returned from Santiago, Chile after studying the logistics involved with exporting produce and other goods from that country. Students visited USDA offices, loading docks, a winery and a fruit farm, among other businesses.

Students are currently preparing to travel to Ireland to meet their colleagues at University College, Dublin for a joint course, High-Tech Organizational Innovation. Twenty Smith students and twenty Dublin students will work together in teams to analyze technology organizations.

If you're searching for a more in-depth international experience, consider spending a semester living and studying abroad in the Smith School's global exchange program. Classes are taught in English, and programs are offered at select business schools around the world including:

The Center for Global Business also helps new Smith MBA graduates take the first step in their global business careers. In 2000, the school joined the MBA Enterprise Corps, a consortium of leading US business schools that recruits recently graduated MBA students to work in developing and transitional markets providing technical and managerial assistance to private enterprises. Graduates may apply through the Center for Global Business to the corps for 15-month assignments in Eastern Europe, the Commonwealth of Independent States, and Asia.
