Diversity at Smith
Overview
The Robert H. Smith School of
Business continues to be committed to
the expansion of a diverse workforce.
This year we are offering
Kaleidoscope: Advancing Diversity
at Smith, a workshop designed to
attract talented
members of underrepresented groups who
are interested in management careers in
business.

The goals of this workshop are to offer
prospective-MBA students from
underrepresented populations (African
American, Hispanic American, Native
American and women) an overview of the
Smith MBA program, introduce them to the
fundamental disciplines of graduate
management education and provide an
in-depth exploration of the admissions
process, financing the MBA, and career
opportunities post MBA. The culture of
the Smith School is one that causes us
to address needs and goals of the
community through collaboration.
In that spirit, this workshop is
coordinated by the Office of Admissions,
with the support of our student body,
both individually and collectively.
Among the Smith organizations vital to
the program are the BMBAA (Black MBA
Association), GWIB (Graduate Women in
Business), and HMBAA (Hispanic MBA
Association).
Benefits
Attending this workshop will provide you
with the opportunity to:
Learn more about the Smith MBA and how
it can advance your personal and career
development.
Gain valuable information about the
application and admissions process at
the Smith School of Business.
Network with other prospective
students, current students, alumni,
faculty and staff at the Smith School of
Business.
Experience the culture of the Smith
School first-hand: the excitement, the
rigorous academic atmosphere, the
collaborative, results driven
environment, and our commitment to
diversity.
Why should I attend?
Making the decision to attend a graduate
business program should be done
carefully. One must weigh many factors
before choosing a graduate program. We
encourage students who are considering
Smith to:
Assess our core foundation courses -
which prepare our students to be
successful business leaders.
Explore our depth of elective areas -
thoroughly designed to strengthen skills
and increase knowledge in a specific
area.
Investigate the level of programming
and resources available to our students,
both at the B-School and the University
of Maryland.
Evaluate the commitment to diversity
at the student, faculty and
administrative levels.
Acknowledge that a solid MBA program
(like Smith) is rigorous; however, the
challenges and rigors will prepare you
for competition in an ever-changing
global economy.
