Universidad Polytecnica de Valencia - Valencia, Spain

Universidad Polytecnica de Valencia (UPV) is a public educational institution that enrolls over 35,000 students. The city of Valencia, located in the middle-east of Spain, on the shore of the Mediterranean Sea, is considered the third largest city in Spain.

Although most classes are in Spanish, UPV offers many courses taught in English each semester. About 10 business courses per semester are offered. Exchange students are assigned a “host” student who acts as a local guide to answer questions and help orient them to the city. Students can choose from dorm-style accommodations where they live with other exchange students or make arrangements on their own for a private apartment or flat. Homestays with a Spanish family are also available.

For more information, visit UPV’s exchange program website.

What Smith students have to say about Valencia:

“Studying abroad in Valencia, Spain was by far the most fun and rewarding experience I have had in college. I am a finance and accounting major and studied at Universitat Politecnica De Valencia (UPV) in the spring of 2008. UPV is located on a beautiful campus that consists of a variety of sports facilities (tennis, volleyball, soccer, etc), multiple outdoor cafes, and classrooms with top of the line technology. Also, UPV is a 10 minute walk or 2 minute tram ride from the beach. The city of Valencia is a perfect place to study abroad if you want to live in a big, lively city but still want to learn the culture and language of the people without being surrounded by tourist all the time. In that sense Valencia is like a hidden treasure. It is the third largest city in Spain yet hardly anyone knows about it so it is not a big tourist destination.”
