Semester Abroad: Process
Deadlines
The deadlines to apply are March 1st for the fall semester and October 1st for
the spring semester.
Applying for a Visa
All exchange students must obtain a visa to stay in their host country for
study and because you are there longer than 90 days. To apply, almost all
countries require an in-person interview at the consular office in Washington
DC. Schedule the appointment for your interview as soon as you have your letter
of admission from your host school. Please consult the host country consular
office website to see what the visa costs and what other materials and
application form are required.
Booking Your Flight
You should book your flight as soon as you know from your Smith academic
advisor that you have permission to study abroad and as soon as you have your
admission letter - you will frequently need to show your flight information
during
your visa interview.
