Global Business Exchange Programs

Program Cost & Financial Aid

When you study abroad on a partner exchange program, you pay tuition and fees (aside from housing) the same as if you remained here at the Smith School.; the framework of the exchange is such that each university sends an equal number of students abroad as they receive, and so costs are balanced out. You are, however, responsible for the payment of housing (to the university or to a landlord), meals and transportation while abroad.

If you study at a non-partner AACSB or Equis accredited institution, you will make all financial arrangements with that university.

Most aid programs can be received during Study Abroad Semesters, but students must request authorization of each award. The Office of Student Financial Aid (OSFA) is not able to offer extra grants or scholarships to help cover the additional cost of Study Abroad Programs. In some cases the OSFA can offer additional student or parent loans after adjusting for Study Abroad cost.

Complete the Financial Aid For Study Abroad Form for student loan, federal grants (Pell and SEOG), institutional grants (UM Grant , UM Scholarship, and Frederick Douglas Grant), and all grants and scholarships from the Maryland State Scholarship Administration (MSSA). Please note that MSSA aid can only be received if the study abroad program is sponsored by a college or university within the state of Maryland.
