United Arab Emirates (UAE) Global Immersion Experience
The modernization of Abu Dhabi and Dubai are stunning to see. Dubai is one of
the most dynamic business environments in the world and Abu Dhabi is raising its
international profile.
The UAE is the most competitive economy in the Arab World, which is a status
it has achieved by diversifying its economy and entering new business sectors
such as a finance, transportation/logistics, clean air technology, cultural
tourism and real estate.
Students participating in the UAE course will gain first-hand knowledge of
the UAE's transformation from a tribal culture to a growing economic superpower
and an important player in international affairs. Those visiting Dubai and Abu
Dhabi will experience a diverse region of the world, exposing them to a plethora
of issues that involve business, culture, religion, economy, and society.
A more recent trip included meeting visiting Emirates Airlines, Nakheel, DP
World, Dubal, Ten Sports, Nasdaq Dubai, Dubai International Finance Center, Abu
Dhabi Chamber of Commerce, and Northrop Grumman. Past UAE courses have also
visited Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, the world's largest sovereign wealth
fund; touring Masdar, Abu Dhabi’s multi-billion dollar investment to create the
world’s first zero-carbon, zero-waste, car-free city that will set the global
blueprint for sustainable development; and gaining entry to the Burj Khalifa,
the world's tallest building.

Course summary
Estimated cost is
$2195, not including airfare or personal expenses.
Included: UMD tuition, UMD $250 Education Abroad fee, lodging, 1-2 meals, any
required cultural activities, likely travel within the country (to be announced).
Not included: personal expenses, most meals, trip insurance and international
airfare.
Students are advised to purchase refundable tickets and travel insurance to counter
any inconvenience caused by a change in the program's itinerary. Once the course
is confirmed and you are admitted, the Faculty Director will provide a recommendation
for international flights. You are then urged to purchase your tickets for travel
to/from the country.
Payment information
The program fee is divided into four separate charges that are applied to your
account over the course of the fall semester:
- A non-refundable $50 application fee is due at the time of application.
- Upon admission, student is responsible for paying a $250 non-refundable deposit.
This amount must be paid online within a few days using a credit card (it is not
charged to the student’s account). Applicants understand that if admitted to the
program, they are responsible for paying this deposit, which is non-refundable under
any circumstances.
- UMD $250 Study Abroad Fee.
- The remaining balance will be due upon registration.
All four charges add up to the published program fee.
