Doing Business in the Middle East and North Africa

This course aims to introduce participants to the changing macro-economic and institutional environments in the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) region and analyze their implications on growth prospects, investment, trade, firms operations and doing business in the region. It will identify the factors accounting for current and prospective growth patterns in the MENA region such as capital accumulation, human capital, trade and investment policies, and governance style as well as assess the extent to which reforms are improving the business environment.

This course will focus on QUEST principles from the perspective of international business. Particular attention will be paid to the use of systems thinking and strategies designed to improve production quality.

Note:

  • There is a $500 penalty if you withdraw from the course after October 15. This penalty will be charged to your bursar account.
  • A group flight will be arranged or students may also opt to travel on their own. Students who travel on their own should make arrangements that ensure they will be with the group in Tunis from January 3- January 10.
  • The program fee does NOT cover airfare to the country nor any airfare/train fares for intra-country travel beyond what is outlined in the course itinerary. Students are also responsible for paying their own visa and/or entry fee if applicable.
  • Please do not purchase any airline tickets until enrollment for the class is confirmed, after October 1, 2009, as the dates are subject to slight adjustments due to travel logistics.
