Understanding
India and China is critical for the success of global firms and leaders. Both
have dominated the economic news of the 1990s and 2000’s with stories of
impressive growth and entrepreneurial spirit. India is the largest democracy and
the second fastest growing large economy in the world with a GDP growth since
2003 averaging close to 8% a year. Some predict that India will be one of the
three largest economies in the world in our lifetime, even ahead of US in some
projections. China is coming into its own on the world stage as an economic
leader stepping up to the corresponding responsibilities.
The
main objective of this course is to familiarize you to the Indian and Chinese
context and the opportunities offered by both, and to compare and contrast the
two. The course offers an opportunity for students to integrate what they
experience abroad with what they are learning in other courses to internalize
the core themes of globalization, entrepreneurship and technology. Students will
begin to see the impact of culture and infrastructure development has on
economic growth. This course is meant for those who want to lead in the global
economy in which China and India have tremendous strategic importance.
