Student-Designed BUSI798 Course Abroad (2011)
Are you interested in putting together an amazing experience abroad? Is there
a destination and topic you are interested in that’s not on the list?
Call for Proposals
Smith MBAs have the opportunity to propose a course abroad. Students should design
the course topic and description, and recruit the faculty lead. The Office of Global
programs will determine the partner abroad and will set up the hotel, company/cultural
visits (unless the proposal includes specific personal company contacts, in which
case the student will manage those in conjunction with the Office of Global Programs),
local transportation, group meals, and manage the payments for and marketing of
the program.
Submit a proposal by
January 31, 2010, to Lisa Barnard. Notification
will be made by February 28, 2010.
Proposals must include:
- Statement of academic relevance and what value the course will bring to
the Smith degree.
- Name and contact information for faculty lead. Faculty must have assured
they will be available to run both the BUSI788 one-credit fall course (meets
2-3 Sunday afternoons in BA and DC/CP) and the three-credit BUSI798 course abroad.
Please direct interested faculty to
Lisa Barnard for compensation
details.
- General itinerary and dates. Most BUSI798 courses go to one or two cities
(no more than two is advised). Please include in the itinerary two key cultural
activities that will be an integral part of the course.
- Why you are interested in the course/topic
Key guidelines:
- This is a competitive process, and the Office of Global Programs reserves
the right to reject all proposals.
- The class will be abroad for 8-10 days, depending on the destination and
itinerary, in the first two weeks of January 2011.
- The proposed class should not overlap with any current offerings.
- The destination(s) must not be under any U.S. State Department travel warnings.
- Minimum enrollment for the course must be 15 students by Sept 15, 2010
- Check the destinations to assure there are no competing events (for example,
Cannes Film Festival, major industry conference in the topic to be covered,
religious/state holidays)
