Diversity at Smith

Overview

The Robert H. Smith School of Business continues to be committed to the expansion of a diverse workforce. To that end, we recruit students who represent the workforce of today and the future.

Our recruiting efforts include presentations at national conferences, partnerships with professional organizations, representation at national fairs and forums and recruitment events at colleges and universities with significant enrollment of under-represented populations. Our on-campus programming includes Kaleidoscope: Women & Diversity at Smith a workshop designed to attract talented members of underrepresented groups who are interested in management careers (as an entrepreneur, or a part of a corporation or not-for-profit organization).

The goals of the workshop are to offer prospective-MBA students from underrepresented populations (African American, Hispanic American, Native American, Women and GLBT) an overview of the Smith MBA program, introduce them to the fundamental disciplines of graduate management education and provide in-depth exploration of the admissions process, financing the MBA, and career opportunities post MBA. The workshop is coordinated by the Office of Recruitment, with the support of our student body and alumni, both individually and collectively. Among the Smith organizations vital to the program are the BMBAA (Black MBA Association), SAWMBA (Smith Association of Women MBAs), HMBAA (Hispanic MBA Association) and SPA (Smith Pride Alliance).
