Faculty Profile
Michael Faulkender’s research
focuses on empirical corporate
finance, primarily in the areas of
capital structure, risk management,
corporate liquidity, and executive
compensation. His work has been
published in the Journal of
Finance, Journal of Financial
Economics, and Review of
Financial Studies and has been
cited in the Wall Street Journal
and The New York Times. His
paper “Does the Source of Capital
Affect Capital Structure?” (with
Mitchell Petersen) was awarded the
Barclay’s Global Investors / Michael
Brennan Best Paper Award – Runner Up
for 2006. Professor Faulkender
teaches the introductory finance
class in the MBA program at the
Smith school. Prior to joining
Smith, Professor Faulkender taught
at Washington University in St.
Louis and Northwestern University.
