  • Coordination in Offshore Software Development Projects

The project involves studying the impact of external and internal coordination mechanisms in offshore software teams on project quality and cycle times. External coordination is important to resolve open issues between the vendor team located offshore and the client organization. Internal coordination is necessary to ensure the development team is able to manage project interdependencies. Current analysis is being conducted on 85 projects collected from Indian offshore vendors. With Sanjay Gosain and David Darcy.

  • Role of Contract Choice on Offshore Quality and Vendor Returns to Quality

Contracts in the offshore domain are usually fixed price (FP) or time and materials (T&M). The incentives for offshore vendors are clearly influenced by the choice of contract for a project. In an incomplete contracting environment where quality provisioning is costly, we analyze the effect of contract choice on the quality of service provided by the vendor. In addition, we study whether there are any significant returns to providing higher quality for the vendor. With Balaji Koka (Arizona State University).

  • An Analysis of the Indian Software Exports Industry Using the Resource-Based View of Sustained Competitive Advantage

The Indian software exports industry has grown at a rate of roughly 45% over the last 10 years and has become recognized as a market leader in the IT services area. I analyze firm performance in this market using resource-based theory on industry data from 1996 through 2004. Specifically, I study how valuable and non-substitutable resources such as software processes and reputation lead to sustained competitive advantage. With Gordon Gao and Ritu Agarwal

  • E-Procurement Assimilation in Indirect Purchasing Activities: An Innovation Diffusion Analysis

We study the assimilation of e-procurement technologies in organizations in the US using prior theory from innovation diffusion. In particular, we study how assimilation proceeds differentially across pre-order, order and post-order technologies procurement technologies. Additionally, we also model the impact of e-procurement adoption on organizational performance. With Seunghee Yu (HKUST), Sandra Slaughter and Tridas Mukhopadhyay (Carnegie Mellon University).
