2015 Candidate: Ajay joined the Marketing doctoral program in 2009. His substantive interests are pricing and morality, and his theoretical interests include perceptual salience. His dissertation is a multi-method examination of surcharge pricing, and his prior jobs have spanned marketing, research, teaching, teaching assistance, and technology at Microsoft, Indian School of Business, Wipro Technologies, UST Global, and M. A. College of Engineering.

Ajay was awarded a full graduate assistantship and a Dean's Summer Fellowship for his Ph.D. studies. His research interests include behavioral pricing, goal conflict, and affect.

2019 Candidate: Xian holds an undergraduate degree in Economics from Peking University and a Master's of Arts in Economics from Stony Brook University. Her research interests include quantitative modeling and attribution models.

2015 Candidate: He holds an undergraduate degree in Economics and Political Science from the University of Florida and a Master's of Science in Management and a Master's of Business Administration from the University of Florida. His research interests include services marketing, innovation, and modeling.

2019 Candidate:  Jin-Hee holds an undergraduate degree in Business Administration and Applied Statistics and a Master of Science in Business Administration from Yonsei University, and a Master of Arts in Applied Statistics from University of Michigan. Her research interests include social media marketing, quantitative modeling, and Bayesian statistics in marketing.

2018 Candidate: In Hye received her B.A. in Consumer Studies from Seoul National University in South Korea and MA in Psychology from New York University. Prior to joining the PhD program, she worked as a marketing researcher at Gallup Korea in South Korea. Her research interest includes consumer morality, social class, and auction behavior.

2016 Candidate: James received his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Korea University (2008), and his master’s degree in marketing from Seoul National University (2010). He is primarily interested in how consumers address their identity concerns through choice. Outside the lab, he enjoys reading science fiction, listening to original scores, and watching footage of 2010 Vancouver Olympics figure skating gold medalist Yuna Kim.

2016 Candidate: Tom received his MS degree in Business Administration from the Seoul National University in South Korea and his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Economics from the same university. His research interests lie in consumer behavior, revealing consumers' judgement and decision making process. He is particularly interested in pricing and persuasion.

2016 Candidate: Seoungwoo holds an undergraduate degree in industrial engineering from Korea University and a master’s degree in operations research from Columbia University. Prior to joining the PhD program he worked at the Center for Decision Sciences at Columbia Business School. His research interests include mobile applications, crowdfunding, dynamic structural econometric models, and Bayesian statistics.

2018 Candidate: Kalinda Ukanwa started the program in Fall 2013.  Prior to that,Kalinda was an industrial engineer, financial analyst, and executive at digital, entertainment, and leisure firms such as Walt Disney, Citigroup, Viacom, and Kaplan.  She has two research interests: 1) consumer misbehavior and 2) the quantification of fun--developing quantitative marketing models to gain insight into the consumption of digital, entertainment, and leisure activities. Kalinda is a recipient of the University of Maryland Graduate School University Fellowship.

2018 Candidate: Jared holds an undergraduate degree in Business Administration (Focus: Marketing) from the Foster School of Business at the University of Washington. Prior to beginning his PhD studies at the Smith School, Jared functioned as a sales manager under the PepsiCo family of brands. His research interests are directly influenced by his time industry, as he seeks to better understand the role of incentives in the marketplace. Another substantive area of his research involves consumer decision-making online.

Yuechen Wu

2019 Candidate:  Yuechen Wu holds an undergraduate degree in economics from Nankai University, China, and a master’s degree in applied economics from the University of Michigan. Prior to joining the PhD program, Yuechen worked as a research associate at Weatherhead School of Management, Case Western Reserve University; she also worked as a marketing consultant in Cleveland focusing on business between the United States and China.    

Yuechen was awarded a full graduate assistantship and a Dean's Summer Fellowship for her PhD studies. She focuses on behavioral marketing, and her research interests include consumer behavior and decision-making, social inclusion, and persuasion and attitude change.
