Logistics & Transportation

Overview
The doctoral program in Logistics and Transportation is designed to produce outstanding scholars in the fields of logistics, transportation, and supply chain management. Graduates of the program are well-qualified to take academic positions in colleges and universities in the United States and abroad.

Students in the PhD Program achieve excellence through: (1) extensive preparation in the major, a related minor, and associated research tools (primarily statistics or operations research); (2) joint research with faculty; (3) independent research culminating in a doctoral dissertation; and (4) the teaching of courses for undergraduate majors in logistics, transportation, and supply chain management.

Program Requirements
Major Specification
Six courses are at the doctoral level, normally six doctoral seminars offered in logistics, transportation, and supply chain management.

First Minor (Research Tools) Specification
Four courses in statistics, operations research, or other appropriate subject areas, typically at the doctoral level.

Second Minor Specification
Four courses, typically at the doctoral level, in Marketing, Operations Management, Information Systems, or another appropriate area.

Logistics Requirement
BMGT 732 or independent study in logistics, with waiver of requirement for students with at least an introductory undergraduate or graduate course in logistics management.

Economics Requirement
One graduate course in microeconomics.

Paper Requirement
Two papers of journal quality must be written before taking comprehensive exams.
