Dale Vander Wall
Assistant Dean of Strategic Operations
Dale Vander Wall serves as the Assistant Dean of Strategic Operations for the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business. In this role he oversees the Offices of Smith IT, Smith Operations, and Smith Programs and Events and supports the critical operations functions that enable the School's faculty, staff, alumni, and corporate partners to provide a world-class education for its students. He also works closely with the Dean on strategic planning implementation issues.
Vander Wall has worked at the University of Maryland for over 22 years and served most recently as Chief of Staff for the Center for Advanced Study of Language, a university-affiliated research center dedicated to working on problems at the intersection of foreign language, culture, and national security. Prior to that, he served in the Dean's Office of the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences, the Vice President for Student Affairs’ Office, and the Department of Resident Life. He received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology with a Business minor at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan; a Master of Science Degree in Higher Education Administration at Indiana University, Bloomington; and advanced to candidacy for the Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Higher Education Policy and Leadership at the University of Maryland. He worked at the University of New Mexico prior to coming to Maryland.
Throughout his career, he has been committed to supporting the teaching, knowledge creation, and service missions of the university in each of his roles. Using a systems approach, he strives to ensure service excellence through open communication, collaboration, and applying tried and true leadership and organizational principles to whatever issues he faces.
He is married to Kristine Vander Wall, and has three kids – Hannah, Sophia, and Seth.
