Leadership in a Global Economy
Suresh Kumar, Head of Trade Promotion for the U.S. Department of Commerce, and Marriott Corporation’s Ed Fuller to speak at Global Leadership Event in D.C. on October 6 On Thursday, October 6, 2011, the Center for Leadership, Innovation and Change will host Leadership in a Global Economy at the Reagan Building in downtown Washington, D.C. Suresh Kumar is assistant secretary of commerce and director general for the U.S. & Foreign Commercial Service (USFCS) at the U.S. Department of Commerce. He will kick off the upcoming conference, speaking on the topic, “How U.S. Businesses Can Compete and Win in the Global Marketplace.” Ed Fuller, president of international lodging for Marriott, and author of the top-selling book, "You Can't Lead with Your Feet on the Desk," will discuss how to lead by example, earn trust, and build the lasting cross-cultural connections crucial to every business leader. Mission: The Center for Leadership, Innovation & Change (CLIC) is focused on producing vanguard research and programs and related activities that are instrumental in fostering effective leadership, building organizational capabilities that support and promote effective innovation and change, and promoting social stewardship in organizations. Through its exceptional research capabilities and related programs, activities, and events that advance leadership practice and strategy of connecting research and practice on leadership, the Center serves a broad audience of executives, managers, scholars, instructors, students, and alumni, while also seeking their input.

Vision: Translating the scholarly and practical expertise of the Smith faculty into leadership insights for business, government and nonprofit executives and offering the chance for collaboration with the Smith School.
