Language House Coffee Chats

Smith students are invited to join the Language House Coffee Chats. The purpose of the Coffee Chats is to provide you with a chance to practice, improve or maintain your foreign language skills in an informal, relaxed setting. In order to help you improve your skills, a native or near-native "facilitator" guides or oversees each Coffee Chat group. The facilitator can also provide you with vocabulary or grammar constructions that you may need to express yourself, but take care to make inquiries at a rate and in a manner that does not interrupt the flow of conversation at the table.

Currently, 14 languages are offered at the Language House Coffee Chats:

Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Persian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish.

Other languages are featured occasionally during the semester. Call the Language House for more information on the Coffee Chats, or if you would like to add a language to the line-up.

Coffee, tea, and refreshments are provided compliments of the Language House.

When: Mondays, during the semester (4 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.)

Where: St. Mary's Hall, Ground floor

If you have any questions about the Coffee Chats, contact the Program Director of the Language House at (301) 405-6996 or PhoenixL@umd.edu or visit their Web site.
