International Business Boot Camp 2007
BMGT 392: Introduction to International Business and Management
Ronald Reagan Building, Washington, D.C.
May 21-25, 2007
"The best five-day learning experience I've had the
opportunity to take part of in my three years at college." -- Finance major, R.H.
Smith School of Business, Class of 2008
"Students who are not business majors should be required to take this
course as a CORE requirement. Knowing how business affects everyone globally
is integral to life after college." -- Hector Gomez, Senior, Spanish
Culture, Literature major w/business concentration, School of Languages and
Culture
"This class provides a great opportunity for outside the classroom
learning."
-- Junior, Accounting and IS, Smith School
"Although it was challenging, the visits and speakers made the
intensive course interesting and put all the concepts into a "real-world"
perspective."
-- Senior, Class of 2008, General Business and Spanish major, RH Smith
Business and School of Languages and Literature
"A high-paced crash-course in international business. At the end I was
almost reeling from all the information, but it was well-worth it - highly
enjoyable."
"A comprehensive hands on overview/insight into the workings of
business, government and the international community to manage
globalization."
"I think that this boot camp was a very intensive, exhaustive, yet
very enlightening experience. What classroom gets a chance for one week to
read material out of a textbook, and apply it to the real world, and get
hands on experience? The most interesting day was Wednesday, where we were
able to visit the World Bank and the global marketplace. I was able to talk
to many people from all over the world and vote on a project which I thought
would be of great value to the country with the problem. There were many
great speakers who talked to us about their impact of the role they play and
their organization or institution plays (such as the IMF). I learned a lot
in this one week, which I will never forget and will carry on for the rest
of my life. I think this should definitely be offered to other students. The
benefits definitely outweigh the cost. I took this for the three credits, but
now it's more than three credits, it's an experience of a lifetime, and one that
I will never forget." -- Josefina Pena, rising senior
"The International Business Boot Camp was the most intensive and
rewarding course I have taken at the University of Maryland."
"Learning about international business in the heart of our nation's
capital truly made every topic relevant because everyday we would physically
witness agencies and companies exhibiting what we were being taught."
--
Louis Allan Perraud, Accounting/Finance major, Junior
"Hearing speakers from the various organizations we visited really
turned me on to International Business. Seeing all of the career paths that
can follow studying this field made me glad I chose it as a major and I
wouldn't have realized this if I hadn't taken the class." -- Meredith
James, will be senior marketing and international business
"I highly recommend this course. It gives you an opportunity to visit
great places in DC where you would normally never (or couldn't) visit."
-- Business, Junior, senior in August, Smith School
"Field Trips 392." Thank you for the time involved in giving me this
opportunity. -- Robert Coffman
