The Smith School CIBER invites you to attend a special lecture to learn about
all the work being done in the Federal Government and at the Smith School to address
this extreme volatility, shocks to the supply chain, and other emergencies facing
modern managers and their communities.
The lecture will feature distinguished speaker and Disaster and Emergency Operations
Specialist, John Schulte. As former USFS Disaster and Emergency Operations & International
Fire Support Specialist, John was involved in the development, writing and implementation
of the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and the National Response Plan.
He has worked jointly with USDA Agencies, DHS, FEMA, and many other Local, State,
Tribal and Federal Government Agencies on emergency incidents, including:
- Leading the U.S.F.S. response to the World Trade Center Terrorist Attack on
911
- Coordinating the USFS response to APHIS during the Avian Influenza out break
- Leading the USFS response to the Columbia Shuttle Disaster in Texas and Louisiana,
- Served as the USFS National Emergency Support Function Leader during the hurricane
activations in 2003-2005 which included the response to Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
- Providing emergency management training to campus officials following major
emergencies (i.e. campus shootings at Virginia Tech. and at EMCOR, Albuquerque.)
The presentation will be introduced by Prof. Sandor Boyson, author of “X-SCM:
The New Science of X-treme Supply Chain Management”.
Although this is a public event and there is no charge to attend, space is
limited and registration is required.
