Chuan Sheng Liu, Guest Speaker

Chuan Liu is the director of the Confucius Institute at Maryland and a professor of physics at University of Maryland where he has served for over 30 years. His M.A. and Ph.D. are both from the University of California, Berkeley. Liu served as President of National Central University in Taiwan during February 2003 - February 2006. His past positions have been with the University of Maryland as Interim Vice President for Research, Dean of the Graduate School, and Director of the Institute for Global Chinese Affairs (IGCA). Liu's vast expertise lies in plasma theory, fusion energy, theoretical sciences, and astronomy, but he finds great satisfaction in the classroom with students. Recent guest professorships have been with Peking University, and the University of Science and Technology in China. A winner of numerous awards and honors, Dr. Liu is a Fellow of the American Physical Society.
