Doing Business and Managing Enterprises
in China
College Park, Maryland
Five Saturdays
February 9 - February 23 -
March 8 - March 29 - April 12
The Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER) at Smith
School is
pleased to offer this highly topical
executive seminar on "Doing Business and Managing
Enterprises in China."
Today, a vast majority of Fortune 500 companies, and a large number of small
and medium
sized companies, are doing business in
China, including sourcing, manufacturing, research &
development, domestic sales, marketing,
exports, and more. Many of these are joint ventures
or wholly owned enterprises, which face
the same kinds of business opportunities and
managerial challenges that companies
encounter in emerging markets. However, given
China's
size, history, and governance systems,
opportunities and challenges tend to be huge!
The Smith School itself has a major presence in China. Our operations in
China include
the prestigious Executive MBA program in
Beijing and Shanghai. We have physical operations
in China with local staff, and
three-four Smith School professors and staff are in China
every month. All of this has given us a
depth of understanding and knowledge of China, of
doing business in China, and of managing
an enterprise in China.
In addition, we are pleased to have Prof. Chunghuang Ma from our partner
institution in
China (University of International
Business and Economics) who is visiting the Smith School
this spring. He will be the key faculty
leader for this seminar, which will also have a
number guest speakers from Smith School,
University of Maryland, and companies doing
business in China. Professor Ma has
taught this and similar seminars/courses in China and at
the Australian National University for
some ten years.
The Seminar
Since learning is best when it takes place over a reasonably long period of
time and
bearing in mind the convenience of
prospective participants, the seminar is being offered
over a period of five Saturdays this
spring.
