Current CHIDS Members

CHIDS welcomes CISCO Inc. as a new member of the center. We are currently working together on studying the negative outcomes associated with poor communication patterns in hospitals. Our goal is to develop a robust economic model that could be used to quantify the value of improved communication through unified communications systems.
Capital Technology Information Services (CTIS) provides Information Technology products and services that help clinical trial sponsors improve the safety, efficacy, and efficiency of their clinical trials. Performance is central to all CTIS Clinical Trials Research and Management (CTRM) informatics solutions. CHIDS and CTIS came together in July-August 2006 to build a long-term relationship focused on the health care and health information technology research areas. The relationship sought to construct reciprocal industry-academic collaborations in the mutual interest areas and contribute to knowledge by fostering existing and new research. The goals and objectives of building this relationship were framed with Mr. Raj Shah, CEO and Mr. Anil Srivastava, Vice President of CTIS; with the signing of the membership agreement with CHIDS in November of 2006. CHIDS has provided thought leadership and coordination in several research projects and has extended a continuing seat to Mr. Raj Shah, CEO of CTIS, on CHIDS’ research advisory board. Since then, CHIDS and CTIS have collaboratively worked on several projects along with faculty and research associates from Smith School. The initial activities were related to the National Knowledge Commission and the I-HIND group and CHIDS provided several inputs for India's health information infrastructure plans. Further, CHIDS fellow Jibanananda Khuntia put his efforts towards fostering research and development activities towards the National Research and Education Network of India along with his association with Internet2. This was part of CTIS’ broader agenda related to the US-India relationship to build the national research and education network and health information networks and subsequently led to the formation of iBharti with the objective to strengthen these activities. In 2007-2008, the relationship with CTIS has been extended to encompass Arogya-iBharti Project with a goal of providing technology intervention support to a health assessment project in the remote villages in India. We are currently in the feasibility study aspect. CTIS and iBharti CEO Raj Shah notes: “CHIDS Collaboration has provided the missing link to CTIS perspective and work on health and clinical management technologies. We have gained a lot from this collaboration and it has increased our intellectual outreach.”
Johnson & Johnson is a founding member of the center in 2005. J&J and CHIDS have since collaborated on several important projects. The initial project was the first widespread capture of health information systems projects through the HIT dashboard. This easy-to-use interactive map tracks information on state healthcare related grants, legislation, Regional Health Information Organizations (RHIOs) and Health Information Exchanges (HIEs). Several other projects have produced important results and strengthened the collaboration. CHIDS works directly with the InformationEDGE group, a lean, focused health IT strategy unit providing intelligence and pilot management across J&J, principally the Pharmaceutical and Medical Device units. Forthcoming deliverables include a multi-stakeholder industry collaborative on privacy issues, and also the development of an assessment of the Pay-for-performance landscape. J&J views CHIDS as a crucial member of the its team. In 2007, CHIDS' fellow, Kenyon Crowley, was a summer MBA associate with J&J and worked to develop a comprehensive analysis of EHR vendors from a manufacturers' point of view and developed an HIT Policy Toolkit to inform and influence policy making. The output resulted in an award for excellence. Recognition of the value CHIDS provides can be summed up in the quote from Joe Volpe, Director, Health Care Strategy, Business Intelligence: "CHIDS has been instrumental in providing critical insights within strategic emerging markets that have been leveraged across our operating companies. CHIDS is a trusted source to execute added value programs that many organizations are not resourced to execute on a daily basis".
Pfizer is the world’s largest private research organization and pharmaceutical manufacturer. Pfizer's mission is to advance the quality and safety of healthcare through the research and development of innovative new medicines and health management services. CHIDS and Pfizer's association has strengthened the belief that an interoperable eHealth infrastructure will greatly assist us in the search for new cures. It also will improve patient care by making clinical information more readily accessible to providers. Researchers from both sides have collaborated in the past exploring several research areas, including facilitating the diffusion of electronic health records in areas ravaged by hurricane Katrina, and studying the adoption of EMRs in physician practices.
