The Washington Center Project

The CES is partnering this spring with The Washington Center (TWC), the largest independent, nonprofit academic internship program in the country. The mission of TWC is to match exceptional and motivated college students with internship opportunities in public and private organizations. The goal is to develop leadership skills and generate interest in service-oriented careers.
MBA students enrolled in BUMK 736, Service Marketing and Management, will develop a service blueprint to analyze the process by which students apply to TWC, are accepted, and are placed in internships. This will involve participant observation, a research technique in which students will assume the perspective of applicants to TWC, by completing all the steps in the service experience. Jennifer Clinton, Chief Operating Officer and Vice President of Federal Relations of TWC, and a graduate of Smith’s EMBA program, will be the project champion.
